Echocardiography treatment is a type of medical ultrasound used to image the heart. It is used to assess the heart’s size, structure, and function and detect any abnormalities.
Echocardiography use in the United States has increased significantly from 2018 to 2020. This increase has occurred at a higher rate than non-cardiac imaging services, and it is more significant than might be expected relative to the aging of the population. The volume of imaging procedures is expected to continue to increase between 2020 and 2021.
Echocardiography uses ultrasound. An ultrasound transducer (a small microphone) is placed on the skin over the area of the heart, and sound waves are bounced off the heart. The sound waves are then collected by the transducer, and a computer makes an image of the heart.
